Boston Bruins @ New York Islanders – 7:30 p.m. ET
You might think the Bruins fan writing this is backing them because he can’t bear the thought of them losing and is manifesting a win. Here are some facts.
Despite the loss, Boston absolutely dominated Game 5. They won the shots battle 44-19. Their Corsi-For percentage was 68.5 to New York’s 31.5. They ended the night with 3.73 expected goals to the Isles’ 2.45. The only part of the game that NYI controlled was on special teams – converting three of their four power-play chances – and that was also an anomaly given the B’s had the second-best penalty kill in the NHL during the regular season.
We won’t even get into the terrible refereeing. The Bruins exorcised their demons at the Coliseum by winning Game 3, and this series always felt like it was going seven. Book it.
